Today is ‘Fat Thursday’ or in greek Tsiknopempti, which literally means “Thursday of the Smoke of Grilled Meat”. Greeks celebrate it 11 days before Clean Monday (which marks the start of the fasting period of Lent). So we decided to have a barbeque at PIKPA. The people working there under the First Reception Service prepared salads and potatoes ahead and then all together grilled meat. Everyone contributed buying the meat and salads. This beautiful gesture of Solidarity strengthened the bonds between locals and refugees. So, there is also this part of Leros’ community that raises walls against racism!
With love from PIKPA!
